With micro-businesses (i.e. 5 employees of less) accounting for 88% of the enterprises in Huron and a failure rate of 4 businesses in 5, the HSBEC offers many programs and services to aid development of this sector and increase the odds of success. From evaluating an idea to developing a successful business plan, the HSBEC provides a one-stop/first-stop source of business information for new entrepreneurs through one-to-one confidential consultations with Business Consultant Alison Lobb and a walk-in resource area. To set up an appointment with Alison, click here to send her an email, or give the centre a call - 519.527.0305, ext. 35.
The HSBEC strives to simplify and streamline the information required by small businesses operators. The walk-in resource area provides details on funding sources, business planning, market research, bookkeeping, licenses, regulations, statistics & demographics and many other facets of small business management.
The HSBEC is also involved with the Summer Company Program. The Summer Company Program is intended for students 15 - 29 who are returning to school full-time, and it provides financial assistance to start up their summer businesses. Up to $1,500 is available to help cover startup costs and a bursary of $1,500 is awarded upon completion. Each applicant is required to submit a comprehensive business plan and participate in an interview to present the business ideas.
